Forbes has released its annual list of the 400 richest American, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs, with a net worth $6.1 billion, came in 42nd place, jobs increased $1 billion in net worth over last year calculations, but only moved up one position in the rankings.
He unveiled Apple’s iPad table among media frenzy in January; since April the iPad has so far beaten up the hype with more than 3 million sold. In May Apple’s market cap overtook Microsoft’s to become the most valuable tech company in the world. Apple’s latest iPhone sold 1.7 million units 3 days after launch, despite of super publicized antenna problem. Majority of fortune comes from Disney; as biggest shareholder owns bout $4.4 billion of stock. Reed college dropout founded Apple in 1976.
The new Net worth of $6.1 billion Steve Jobs appears to be his highest to date after a brief dip last year from highs of $5.7 billion in the survey of 2007 and 2008.
Bill gates the founder of Microsoft remains at the top of the list for the consecutive 17th year with worth net of $54 billion, from last year $4 up but still below his recent high of $59 billion in 2007. Forbes report also shows that Gates has donated $28 billion into charity, primarily through the Bill & Melinda gates Foundation.
